The outdoor season opened for the UVic Vikes with a gold medal sweep in the 1500m events at the Ken Shannon Invitational. Ashley Hinther won the women's race, while Daniel Mallie took gold in the men's.

Debbie Yeboah, the top ranked high school basketball player in Manitoba according to the Winnipeg Sun newspaper, has announced her intentions to suit up for the UVic Vikes women's basketball team for 2008-09.

Next fall the UVic Vikes will have a chance to make a run at their 11th CIS National title on home turf. The CIS awarded UVic the right to host the 2008 women's field hockey National championships, set for October 30-November 2.

The UVic Vikes men's golf team placed three golfers in the top ten, but there was little they could do to prevent the UBC Thunderbirds from winning the NAIA Region 1 Championship.
