Vikes off to Porto for FISU World Rugby Sevens

#Adam Timler# and Angus MacKay, two members of the Uvic Vikes men's rugby program are destined for Porto, Portugal to compete in the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Rugby Sevens Championships. Led by head coach Sandro Fiorino (McMaster University) and manager Rick Farrally (University of Victoria), the roster will square off against the world's best from July 21-24.

Timler, a third-year business and commerce major out of White Rock, B.C. helped the Vikes capture their third B.C. Premier League title last May with a 31-27 win over Meralomas RFC. Kelowna, B.C. native Angus MacKay, a third year chemistry major started regularly for UVic's Norsemen during the 2009-10 season.

Vikes assistant coach and former Canadian sevens manager Rick Farrally will accompany the squad to his first FISU games competition.

Previous tournaments were held in Spain and Italy with the Canadian squad finishing seventh in 2006 and in tenth at the 2008 competition. For full updates and coverage of the tournament visit the World Rugby Sevens 2010 website.
