PORTO, PORTUGAL – The Canadian men's sevens rugby team featuring Vikes standouts #Adam Timler# and Angus MacKay eased through day one of the FISU World Rugby Sevens with a convincing 45-0 win over Norway.
Mike Davis (McGill University) scored the opening try for Canada as his side went into the break with a 19-0 lead. The second half was all one-way traffic as the Canucks pasted another 26 points on their European counterparts.
University of Western Mustang Rory Tomlinson led the point haul with 16, going over for two tries and kicking three conversions.
UVic Vikes men's rugby assistant coach Rick Farrally, on tour as the Canadian team manager, attributed the win to “some good rucking and pressure by the forwards and some line breaks by the backs.”
Day two at the FISU tournament sees Canada go up against Morocco, Spain and Great Britain.
