University of Victoria Vikes

The Vikes and the University of Victoria are committed to supporting our athletes on and off the field.  The commitment required to compete in high-performance sport and succeed in the classroom is enormous, and is often at the expense of part-time jobs. 

Beyond the basic operating expenses of the teams, UVic offers scholarships and athletic financial awards (AFA’s) to help support our student-athletes.  Vikes athletes are eligible for a variety of sport-specific and general awards that are handed out based upon athletic, academic and leadership criteria.  Funds for these awards are provided through the generosity of department and university sponsors, the provincial government, and department fundraising initiatives.

ATHLETIC FINANCIAL AWARDS
AFA’s are funded through proceeds from annual alumni chapter events and fundraisers such as the UVic Golf Classic, the Vikes Championship Breakfast as well as donations from our alumni, parents and the corporate community.
 
AFA’s are awarded to Vikes varsity athletes on the basis of work ethic, commitment and performance by the Director of Athletics and Recreation in consultation with the Varsity Head Coach and the Manager of Athletics.

Athletic awards are distributed in Junuary, prior to the Spring term fee deadline. The funds are deposited directly to your tuition fee account by Student Awards and Financial Aid.

GENERAL AWARDS
The University of Victoria also offers a variety of bursaries, scholarships and awards, which are available to the general student population (some of these awards have a community service or athletic component).

 Information, applications, etc., can be obtained from your department or faculty, or through Student Awards and Financial Aid (2nd floor of University Centre). Application deadline for most awards/bursaries is October 15th.
