VICTORIA - #Patrick Howell# scored two goals in the final minutes of play to help the UVic Vikes men's field hockey team force a 4-4 draw versus the United Brothers on Sunday.
After finishing the year ending 2009 on a good note, the Vikes have carried their momentum forward into the New Year. The Vikes scored twice in the first half as #Kevin Laidman# converted a short corner, and in quick succession assisted #Derrick Norton# to get deflection goal. However, the Brothers managed to force a 2-2 draw at halftime.
In the second, Brothers scored twice to take a two-goal lead but Vikes senior Patrick Howell stepped up to the task with some diligent play and amazing stick work. Howell scored two straight goals in the last minutes of play to steal a point from the Vancouver-based club.
”It was a good result but would have been nice to have a win with the boys having played so well,” said head coach #Michael Lee#. “Our work is not done here we need to come strong and convert these draws into wins in our next few games to make the playoffs."
