VANCOUVER – A shorthanded UVic Vikes Men's Field Hockey team battled to the final whistle on Sunday to salvage a point in a 1-1 draw with league leaders UBC Thunderbirds.
With #Keegan Pereira# away on national duty, freshman Matthew Sarmento suspended and three Vikes sidelined due to injury, the Vikes went down 1-0 early.
Senior #Derrick Norton# rallied the Vikes pressing hard on the T-Birds defence and the visitors got their break in the final minutes of play.
#Leo Smyth# won their lone short corner and #Kevin Laidman#'s drag flick into the top right corner drew the match level.
The Vikes will look to carry their momentum into Saturday's tilt against the Burnaby Lakers when they square off at 5:00 pm on UVic's field hockey turf.
