Five members of the University of Victoria Vikes men's field hockey team were selected to play on Canada's Senior and Junior National men's teams along with two more alumni.

Vikes senior #Kevin Laidman# is on his much awaited debut with the senior national team in the San Diego tour between Feb. 17 - 27 along with 2 Vikes alumni, Keegan Pereira and Connor Meakin.

Vikes head coach #Mike Lee# says: “Kevin has definitely earned this selection to the National team.  His hard work and discipline, in training both on field and off, has really shown in his game play.  Kevin has been a fantastic leader for the Vikes, and I'm sure that experience will continue on throughout his national team career”.

Four more Vikes, forward/midfielders #James Kirkpatrick# and #Matthew Sarmento#, and defenders #David Bell# and #Samuel Jones# will be playing a huge role in the junior national team and possibly set their sights on the senior squad apart from the world juniors and Pan-American cup.

“James has shown incredible maturity throughout his first two years with the Vikes.  Having already played for and been named one of the junior national team's captains, I'm sure he will have a long and productive national team experience.”
 
“Sam has stepped in and been a huge contributor to the Vikes team this year.  His blend of skills and strength has been so valuable to the team this year and I know it will transfer very well to the junior national team.”

“Dave has been such a calm, dependable addition to our team.  His decision making in all situations is fantastic.  The composure he has demonstrated in games and practices with the Vikes this year is a perfect fit for higher level hockey such as the junior national program.”

“Matt is an incredible athlete, the effort he shows at every opportunity in our training sessions has helped Matt to become one of the teams best two way players.  I look forward to seeing him flourish in the junior national program.”
