VICTORIA - Not letting the rainy and overcast conditions get to them, the University of Victoria women's rugby team downed the University of Alberta Pandas, 37-0, Sept. 26 at Wallace Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
12th Minute - UVic 5, ALB 0
- With the aid of her teammates, Larah Wright powered through the Pandas for the first try of the match.
24th minute - UVic 10, ALB 0
- The Vikes' forward pack paved the way for Summer Blackmore to reach the try zone and double UVic's lead.
30th minute - UVic 15, ALB 0
- Kicking the ball ahead, Sara Kaljuvee grounded the ball in the try zone for her first of the match.
38th Minute - UVic 20, ALB 0
- Kaljuvee got the pass off to Krista Scurfield, who in turn got the ball over the line for the Vikes' fourth try of the first half, as well as her second of the season.
51st Minute - UVic 25, ALB 0
- Ada Okonkwo opened the second-half scoring, powering past the Alberta opposition to secure her first try of the season.
57th Minute - UVic 32, ALB 0
- Picking up her first try of the season, Madison Jumeau found the try zone to add five points to UVic's lead.
- Making the only conversion of the afternoon, Kira Peary sailed the ball through the uprights to secure two more points for UVic.
75th Minute - UVic 37, ALB 0
- Starting with a kick from Alexie Pusch from left side of field to the right, Kaleigh Bellows recovered the ball and took it over the line for her first try of the season.
WORTH NOTING
- Scurfield is the only Vike to have multiple tries so far this season. The Vikes have had eight different scorers on nine tries through two matches.
- Peary is the only member of the UVic squad to have a successful conversion in each of the first two games.
- The win marked the first of the season for the Vikes, who are now 1-1 on the season.
