Shootout victory for Balser, Vikes

VICTORIA - The Vikes Shootout at Cordova Bay Golf Course ended with the UVic Vikes women's golf team winning the team title, and #Anne Balser# claiming the individual trophy.

The Vikes won the tournament by eight strokes, finishing with a total team score of 624. Southern Nazarene University was the next closest competitor at 636.

Balser finished the 36-hole tournament with a final score of 150. She helped the Vikes to an early lead after carding a 1-over 73 on Monday's opening round. On Tuesday she fired a 5-over 77, giving her a three-stroke victory over Concordia's Lindsay Aho.

It was the second individual title of the fall season for Basler, who also won the Wayland Baptist Peaks Classic in mid-September. The Digby, NS has also twice represented Canada at the FISU World University Championships.

#Kristy Chew# placed third after two rounds of consistent play. Her final round on Tuesday yielded a 4-over 76, bumping her total to 154. Vikes rookie #Megan Woodland# also finished amongst the leaders, shooting a 79 on both days to finish at 158.
