Flock selected for national camp

VICTORIA – #Kendra Flock#, a fifth-year striker of the UVic Vikes women's soccer team, has been seconded for the Canadian Senior National team's training camp in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

The Calgary native will take part in an eight-day training camp, which runs November 3-11, and will consequently see Flock miss this weekend's Canada West playoffs.

“It was such a hard decision because I've spent four years with the Vikes, but it's a once in a lifetime opportunity and I have to take it,” Flock added. “It was tough because you kind of feel like you're letting your team down but they've been very supportive and they're very proud of me.”

Flock led the Canada West in scoring this season, tallying 14 goals in 14 games to lead the Vikes to a second place finish with a 9-2-3 record. Her scoring total set a new UVic single-season record.

“She's her in fifth year and it's a great acknowledgment of what she's achieved,” Vikes' head coach #Tracy David# said of Flock's selection. “She's worked hard for that and she deserves to be at the national camp.”

This will be the second stint for Flock donning the maple leaf, but first with the senior team. Flock captained Canada's entry in the FISU Universiade, this past summer in Belgrade Serbia.

“It's a huge honour,” Flock said before leaving on Tuesday morning. “I've always had the dream to make the national team.”
