VICTORIA – Stelly’s Secondary School standout and Vancouver Island AAA champion Craig Taylor has committed to the UVic Vikes men’s soccer team for the 2010 season.
This past November Taylor competed in his third consecutive AAA Lower Island League Championship and captained the Stingers to back-to-back titles in a tight 1-0 win over Reynolds Secondary.
Following in the footsteps of UVic Vikes defender Bobby Eng who played a key role in Stelly’s 2008 Island championship, Taylor said he was excited to suit up for the university squad he watched from the stands at Centennial Stadium.
“Bobby [Eng] and I talked about playing for the Vikes and he said it was a great program and he really enjoys playing for Bruce Wilson,” Taylor said.
With eight players on the Vikes Canada West Championship side graduating this year, UVic men’s soccer head coach
Bruce Wilson says Taylor will be pushing some of the returning players for a starting position.
“With his experience on the Victoria Highlanders Reserves and the Metro rep side, he has shown that he is the type of player that will bring us to the next level,” Wilson said.
