SILVIS, Ill. - The UVic Vikes men's golf team finished day one at the NAIA National Championship tied for 19th place overall, with rookie #Sam Holland# standing 16th on the individual leaderboard.

The Vikes finished with a team score of 304, putting them 20 strokes over par and in a four-way tie for 19th place. The 72-hole tournament runs through Friday at TPC Deere Run.

Holland was the top Vikes finisher, finishing at 1-over 72. The New Minas, N.S. native carded five birdies in his opening round and sits five strokes off the lead.

Axel Ochoa, of defending champion Oklahoma Christian, leads the field at 4-under 67. Oklahoma Christian also finished in the lead after day one with a team score of 291.

Other Vikes competitors included #Steven Lane# and #Chase Teron# sharing 74th place after round scores of 77. #James Holland#, Sam's twin, shot a 78 and #Jordan Ediger# finished with a score of 81.

Round two resumes Wednesday morning, with the field being trimmed to 17 after 54 holes of play.
