Vikes lend support to youth golf clinics

VICTORIA - This weekend, in conjunction with the TC Open, the UVic Vikes men's and women's golf teams will be lending their support to the Thrifty Foods Youth Golf Clinics.

The two-day clinic, which runs May 30-31 at Uplands Golf Club, will be taught by CPGA professionals and former and current members of the Vikes.

"The Board of Directors are very excited to have the Vikes taking the lead with the clinics again this year,” said Murray Thomas, TC Open tournament director. “They are excellent role models in our community and are very committed to the development of the game of golf.”

The proceeds from the clinic go to support the Thrifty Foods Athletic Award, for BC students to play golf at UVic, and also help support the Vikes Jr. Tour.

"There are some very good young golfers in this community, and we are excited to play a role in their teaching and development," said Vikes head coach Bryan Carbery.

The clinic is for youth golfers from ages 8 to 16 years and costs $25. For more information, and to register online, visit: www.alumni.uvic.ca/events
