VICTORIA - Margaret Todd, one of Canada's most accomplished golfers, has donated $100,000 to the UVic Vikes for the creation of a women's golf athletic financial award bearing her and her late husband Jack's name.
"I gave the award to assist with the advancement of golf at UVic," said Todd. "I wanted to provide more incentive for young ladies to pursue their sporting ambitions, while attainting an exceptional education."
Todd, 92, attended Victoria College and held 11 Victoria and district golf titles between 1940-63. She qualified for both the Canadian and U.S. championships and was a member of four international teams. Post-playing career, Todd served on numerous boards and is accredited with devising and implementing a course rating system.

The announcement of Todd's gift came at the conclusion of the 14th Vikes Golf Classic on Wednesday night at Uplands Golf Club, highlighting a banner day of fundraising for athletic financial awards.
The tournament itself figured to raise $50,000, coming in support of the UVic golf program and athletic financial awards. Additionally, the Vikes announced the creation of the Uplands Golf Club Athletic Award and the Thrifty Foods Athletic Award, both of which will be presented annually to members of the Vikes golf team.
This past season Vikes women's golfer #Anne Balser# won the Golf Canadian University Championship and men's golfer #Mitch Evanecz# finished second overall, helping their respective teams to a second and fourth place finishes. Balser and Evanecz both would later represent Canada at the FISU World University Championship in Spain, along with coach Dennis Fedoruk.
