OTTAWA – Three members of the UVic Vikes field hockey programs will represent Canada at Commonwealth Games XIX in Delhi, India. Vikes standout #Keegan Pereira# and Vikes alumni Ali Lee and Katie Collison were selected for the tournament that runs October 3-14, 2010.
The announcement follows up an exceptional season for Pereira, a fourth year Vikes veteran who recently represented Canada at the 2010 Field Hockey World Cup in New Delhi. Pereira has been a member of Canada's national team program since 2007 and has 19 caps to his credit.
After Captaining the Vikes to their sixth CIS bronze medal in school history last November, Collison went on to play for Canada in their South American Tour, their World Cup Qualifier and in the 2010 Chile Test Series held in Vancouver.
Ali Lee captained the Vikes to the school's 11th CIS national championship in 2008, and has since been been training full time with the national team. In 2010 alone, Lee represented Canada at the 2010 Pan American Indoor Championship, the 2010 South American Tour, World Cup qualifier and competed in the Canada-India Cup.
Canada's women's national team opens their campaign against Malaysia on Monday, October 4th with their remaining pool games to be played out against England, Wales and New Zealand.
The men's national team opens the competition on October 5th against South Africa before taking on England, Trinidad and Tobago, and New Zealand in round robin play.
