UVic Vikes head coach
Craig Beaucamp will once again get the opportunity to represent Canada at the highest level possible as the Senior Men's National Team continues their quest for a spot in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Â
Beaucamp will take on the responsibilities of assistant coach as the team goes through a training camp from August 19-24 in Toronto, before travelling to Argentina to do battle with the top 12 teams in the Americas in the FIBA AmeriCup 2017.
Â
"I'm very excited and thankful for the opportunity to represent Canada on the world stage, anytime you get these opportunities it's both an honour and a privilege," said Beaucamp. "We are looking forward to beginning the journey to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019."
Â
Beaucamp and his team begin the tournament in Bahía Blanca, Argentina where they will play the United States Virgin Islands, Argentina and Venezuela in Group B of the competition.
Â
If Canada finishes top of their group they move on to the Final Four in the tournament that runs from August 25 to September 3.Â
Â
This is far from Beaucamp's first opportunity to be at the helm of a national team as he led the U-16 Men's National Team to a second place finish in the FIBA U16 Championships of the Americas that took place earlier this year, June 14-18, in Argentina.
Beaucamp, now entering his 15th year as Vikes head coach, has also previously served as a guest coach with the Senior Men's National Team and as an assistant coach with the U-18 Men's National Team.
