The University of Victoria Vikes women’s field hockey team improved their undefeated record to 2-0-2 this weekend, Sept. 22-23, with wins over the Calgary Dinos. Fifth-year Vikes midfielder Lindsay Cole was a big part of that success thanks to her three-goal weekend including both game-winning goals. Cole, last year’s U SPORTS Gail Wilson Award Winner for Most Outstanding Contributor, is also the heart of the Vikes midfield line. Her fitness, speed and crafty sticks skills have made her a potent part of the Vikes offence. Despite finishing her degree last year, Cole returned to the Vikes for her fifth year of eligibility and is making a lasting impression in her final season. The Vikes dropped the Dinos 2-0 on Sept. 22 and Cole scored the game winner, breaking a deadlock in the 30th minute. Despite the score margin, the Vikes were stunned by a resilient Calgary side in their second match up on Sept. 23. Cole scored the team’s first and third goal, the latter of which served as the game winner, to help the Vikes continue their unbeaten streak.
