FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
The traditional Vikes rowing Trial Eights was delayed because of snow conditions but was finally able to take place on Feb. 18. The event is an internal Vikes vs Vikes competition that sees two even eights race head-to-head down the Gorge Narrows. Team captains pick the crew names and the performances dictate selections for the Mar. 30 Brown Cup event that is a similar head-to-head event but against mainland rivals, the UBC Thunderbirds. Second-year Vikes women’s rower Piper Battersby stroked the winning crew, Finnerty’s, to victory over their teammates’ crew, Starbucks. Battersby has been a leader all month heading in to this past weekend’s competition both in the weight room and on the water.
