Vikes upset Spartans in Centennial Stadium thriller

VICTORIA – Led by Andrew Ravenill's two-goal performance, the UVic Vikes men's soccer team snapped a three game scoreless drought with a 5-4 upset over the Trinity Western Spartans.

The shootout began in the 8th minute with Ravenhill hammering in a shot from outside the box. Spartans' striker Garrett Peters drew the match level in the 30th minute before the Vikes blew the game wide open.

The next three UVic goals came courtesy of Jordie Oberg ('34), Ravenhill ('36) and David Adams ('65.)

With their playoff hopes dwindling, Trinity Western responded through goals from Shawn Parkes ('72) and Andre Costa ('78).

Vikes substitute Colin Medlar scored the game winner in the 82nd minute to put the game out of reach.

In the 90th minute, James Farenhorst scored once more for the Spartans, but the visitors ran out of time to complete the comeback.

The win lifts the Vikes to 2-9-1 ahead of their final double-header against Calgary and Lethbridge next weekend. Kickoff for Saturday, October 30th against the Pronghorns is scheduled for 2:15pm.
