Balser's third-place finish highlights Vikes trip to the desert

PHOENIX - A third-place finish by #Anne Balser# allowed the UVic Vikes women's golf team to finish third overall in the team standings at the Arizona Collegiate Invitational. Meanwhile, the Vikes place placed seventh.

Balser made up two strokes on her final round and finished the 36-hole tournament at 4-over 148. The Digby, N.S. native's low score helped the Vikes capture third overall in the team standings, also bettering rivals UBC by 12 strokes.

West Texas won the women's team title with a combined score of 615. Savannah College's Nikki Stewart was the top female finisher, as she carded a 1-over 145.

Finishing tied for 13th place, #Chase Teron# piloted the men's team seventh place finish. The Red Deer, Alta. native yielded the Vikes low score of five-over 221, helping the team shoot a combined 893 in the 54-hole competition.

California Baptist golfer Frederick Hannson was the top male finisher after shooting eight-under 208. Oklahoma Christian and Holy Names shared the men's team title after both schools finished tied with combined scores of 879.

Other Vikes women's team finishes included rookie #Megan Woodland# carding an 11-over 155. #Alyssa Herkel# tied for 16th at 15-over, #Michaela Misener# was 19-over for 23rd, and #Kalli Gordon# placed 35th at 30-over.

Other men's team performances included #Steven Lane# finishing eight-over for 22nd place, #Jordan Ediger# was 10-over for 28th place, #Sam Holland# 11-over for 32nd place, and #James Holland# 14-over for 39th place.
