Balser leads Vikes into playoffs with third-place finish

SEASIDE, Calif. - Playing in her final tournament prior to the commencement of post-season play, UVic Vikes women's golfer Anne Balser tied for third overall at the Lady Otter Spring Invitational.

Balser, a fifth-year senior from Digby, N.S., carded a 3-over-par 149 in the two-day tournament at Bayonet Golf Course. She shot a 72 in the opening round, and a 77 on day two, to finish three strokes behind individual leader Cicilia Chudivan of CSU-Monterery Bay.

Despite the podium finish from Balser, and a 12th place finish from rookie Megan Woodland, the no. 8 ranked Vikes placed seventh in the team standings. The Vikes combined team score was 633, or 33 strokes behind tournament winner UBC Thunderbirds.

UBC is ranked no. 3 in the NAIA polls, and the two provincial rivals will meet again when the NAIA Regional Championship take place May 3-4 in Las Vegas, Nev.
