FREDERICTON - #Mitch Evanecz#, a senior on the UVic Vikes men's golf team, lost in a two-hole playoff at the 2010 Golf Canada University championship.
FINAL RESULTS
Evanecz lost in a two-hole playoff against Universite de Montreal's Phillippe-Andre Bannon for the right to the individual national title. Evanecz forced the playoff after making up five strokes on Bannon with a third round score of 69, and finished at four-under par.
Evanecz had round scores of 71, 72 and 69, while his Vikes finished tied for fourth at 20-over 884. Laval Universite won their first-ever championship after finishing three-over 867. Humber College and UBC shared second place at 13-over.
The fourth round of the championship, originally scheduled for Thursday, was cancelled due to another day of heavy rains at Kingswood Park. The scores from the first three rounds were used to determine final results.
Other Vikes competitors included rookie #Sam Holland# (72, 75, 74) finishing tied for 18th at five-over, twin brother #James Holland# (77, 77, 71) finishing tied for 35th at nine-over, #Jordan Ediger# (76, 78, 73) placing 42nd at 11-over, and #Steven Lane# (79, 77, 75) holding a share of 52nd at 15-over.
Next up for Evanecz is the FISU World University Championship, which takes place in Antequera, Spain from June 7 to 11.
