VICTORIA, B.C. - The University of Victoria Vikes men's golf team swept the Association of Independent Institutions Championship yesterday, Apr. 23 at the Antelope Hills Golf Course in Prescott, Arizona. The Vikes lead the championship with a one-two finish by 
Carson Kallis (Red Deer, Alta.) and 
James Holland (New Minas, NS).

The Vikes, finishing the tournament with an 857 score, pushed past San Marcos for the AII title by one stroke after carding a 289 team score on the final round of the 6844-yard course. The UBC Thunderbirds, the 2011 AII Champions, finished in third place with an overall team score of 867.
 
Kallis, a former golfer with the University of Texas Arlington, joined the Vikes in February and has since been a consistently strong contender on the field. At the AII Championship, Kallis shot 75-66-72 to finish in first place overall with a score of 3-under-par, 213.
 
Third-year 
James Holland impressed in round three to tally the tournament with a 73-70-70 record and an overall score of 3-under-par, 213. Holland finished in a four-way tie for second place with Thomas University's 
Matt Luckett and UBC's 
Jeremy Demers and 
Conner Kozak.
 
Following closely behind Kallis and Holand was second-year 
Darren Hupfer (Edmonton, Alta.), whose scores of 69-70-75 tallied for a 4-under-par, 214. Both 
Dylan Cann (Calgary, Alta.) and 
Samuel Holland (New Minas, NS) finished 6-over-par, 222 to help the Vikes to their Championship win.
 
With the victory, the Vikes will advance to the 
61st Annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championships, held at Creekside Country club in Salem, Oregon May 22-25.
