VIKES YEAR IN REVIEW :
WOMEN /
MEN
For the women, the last time the Spartans set foot on the grass at Centennial Stadium, they were hoisting the 2012 CIS national championship banner after going 11-1 through the Canada West season. Trinity Western was also the team that knocked the Vikes women out of gold-medal contention in the semifinals at the 2012 CIS national championship. The Vikes went on to finish with a bronze medal after earning the conference silver medal. Also joining the women at the tournament will be the University of Alberta (7-2-3) and the UBC Thunderbirds (8-2-2).
In last year's tournament, the Vikes women settled for silver, after the Spartans got the better of them by a score of 1-0.
In the men's division, the UBC Thunderbirds enter as tournament favourites after they won the 2012 CIS national title and went 11-0-3 to sweep the division and conference title. Not to be underestimated, the Vikes boast several returnees from the 2011 CIS national championship team despite being knocked out of their post-season run after a regular season record of 6-6-2. Also competing in the men's tournament is Trinity Western (9-1-4), who finished fourth in the Canada West, as well as the Fraser Valley Cascades (5-5-4).
In the 2012 Keg Spring Cup, the Vikes men finished fourth after the UBC Thunderbirds stymied the home squad 1-0.
