PREVIEW: Regular season ends with Vikes battling Pronghorns

Oct. 16: Vikes women's rugby vs Lethbridge Pronghorns (11:30 a.m. Wallace Field, Victoria B.C.)

Tale of the Weekend

VICTORIA— After a weekend of rest and relaxation the Vikes women's rugby team will be back to the grind of Canada West rugby on October 16 when they host the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.

The game at Wallace Field is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m.

Lethbridge and the Vikes met in three games last season with the Vikes winning all three contests.

Their most recent match up was a game at the CIS Championship tournament and the Vikes 27-24 victory secured them a fifth place finish in the nation.

Last Time Out

The Vikes had the Thanksgiving weekend off and took full advantage of the rest that provided them.

"I think the weekend off was great for the players to have a mental break from rugby. They definitely kept up with their fitness while they were gone but it's nice to have a little bit of a rest," said Vikes head coach Brittany Waters.

The last time the Vikes were in action, Madeleine Graham scored four tries to lead UVic to victory over the Alberta Pandas.

In their last game, the Pronghorns ran into a very strong University of Calgary team that defeated them by a score of 64-10. The loss dropped the Pronghorns record to 0-2 on the season.

By the Numbers

6:
The number of consecutive Canada West titles Lethbridge won between 2006 and 2012.
30: The number of points Madeleine Graham has scored this season, good enough for second in Canada West.

Coach's Take
Brittany Waters, Vikes head coach

"Lethbridge is not a team you can take lightly ever, which was evident last season. They are the type of team that plays with a lot of heart and they bring everything they have to every game."

"We want to go into the nationals ranked number one in Canada West so we need to peak for Canada West playoffs as well as nationals. This game on Sunday is important, we want to win three out of the four games in our season and then take that momentum into the Canada West tournament."

Player Perspective
Jess Neilson, Third-year Fly Half

"They are going to be very skilled. They are going to very well coached and very fast. Based on their coaches and the recruits that they've brought in they are going to be exciting."

"I think we are going to react really well. It's been great to have a couple days off to reset and recharge our batteries. I think everyone is excited and ready for the challenge."
