March 13: Athletics and Recreation's response to COVID-19

VICTORIA – In alignment with UVic's response to the ongoing and global spread of the COVID-19 virus, Vikes Athletics and Recreation will be implementing measures to best support the safety of all students, staff, faculty and community members.

Effective on Monday, March 16, as students and faculty members transition from face-to-face delivery of classes, the department's facilities will remain open. Programs and services will be modified to support the B.C. Provincial Health Officer's recommendations with respect to social distancing and best practices in hygiene.

Users of fitness centre spaces are encouraged to be diligent and sanitize equipment before and after use. A two-metre gap is the recommended safe distance between members. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing and wash your hands regularly with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand cleaner. Additional hand sanitizers have been placed throughout our facilities. If you are not feeling well, please stay home.

UVic staff are also intensifying cleaning of equipment and high touch areas at least twice daily as per current COVID-19 guidelines. We are also closely monitoring university and public health advisories and directives.

Thank you for your cooperation in making our facilities a safe place for all. As the situation evolves, please check our website and the UVic COVID-19 website for updates.
