Thunderbirds best Vikes in rematch in Vancouver

Vancouver, B.C. - The University of Victoria women's rugby closed its 2021 Canada West regular season slate against the University of British Columbia, falling to the Thunderbirds, 44-10, on the road, Oct. 23.

HOW IT HAPPENED
4th Minute – UBC 5, UVic 0
  • Getting on the scoreboard first, the Thunderbirds broke away from the Vikes to get over the line and score the first try of the game.
13th Minute – UVic 5, UBC 0
  • Finding the response, the Vikes tied it up on a try by Alexie Pusch, powering through the 'Birds with the assistance of the forward pack.
18th Minute – UBC 10, UVic 5
  • The Thunderbirds found an opening on the far side of the field and took advantage, shooting over the line for the try.
23rd Minute – UVic 10, UBC 10
  • Coming off a successful scrum, the Vikes' pack pushed forward with Regan Casey carrying the ball to the in-goal area and tying the game.
28th Minute – UBC 17, UVic 10
  • A quick series of passes by the Thunderbirds beat the Vikes defenders, allowing UBC to score the go-ahead try.
  • The Thunderbirds also made the first conversion of the afternoon to add an additional two points to their lead.
51st Minute – UBC 22, UVic 10
  • Opening the second-half scoring, the Thunderbirds found the in-goal area once again.
58th Minute – UBC 27, UVic 10
  • Beginning to pull away, UBC extended its lead once again seven minutes later.
68th Minute – UBC 34, UVic 10
  • The Thunderbirds scored both the try and conversion to add seven to their lead.
72nd Minute – UBC 39, UVic 10
  • After forcing a turnover, UBC made their way back down the field for their fourth try of the half.
79th Minute – UBC 44, UVic 10
  • UBC scored the final try of the game in the final minute of play to secure the win.
 
WORTH NOTING
  • The Vikes finish the Canada West regular season with an overall record of 3-2. Both losses came against UBC.
  • Casey notched her first try of the season for the Vikes.
  • This was UVic's first match of the season without recording a successful conversion.
 
UP NEXT
Victoria heads to Calgary, Alta. for the Canada West Final Four postseason tournament. The semifinal games will take place Thursday, Oct. 28, with the medal games being played Sunday, Oct. 31.
