VICTORIA - Last-minute heroics from University of Victoria women's rugby player
Summer Blackmore earned the second-year Canada West Player of the Week honours, the conference announced today, Oct. 18.
Blackmore becomes the second Vike to earn player of the week accolades in 2022, following
Kira Peary, Sept. 27. The player of the week nod is the first for Blackmore in her Vikes career.
Scoring two tries for the Vikes in its regular season finale matchup against UBC, Oct. 15, Blackmore's second of the afternoon came after intercepting UBC's punt attempt in the final seconds of regulation, returning the ball to the end zone for the try. After a successful convert, the Vikes closed the 19-point deficit to end the match tied, 31-31.
The Vikes begin postseason play against the University of Calgary in the Canada West playoffs, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. MT in Edmonton, Alta.Â
