Men's soccer downs Heat to close season

VICTORIA – The University of Victoria men's soccer team closed the 2022 season with a 3-1 win over UBC Okanagan, Oct. 22 at Centennial Stadium.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
19th Minute – UVic 1, UBCO 0
  • Putting the Vikes in front, Nick Park launched a turn-in shot from 25 yards out to the top of the net for the 1-0 lead.
63rd Minute – UVic 1, UBCO 1
  • UBCO equalized on a corner kick, finding an open man after a couple quick passes.
75th Minute – UVic 2, UBCO 1
  • A pass from 18-yard box to 18-yard box by Sam McDonald found Sylvain Taghaoussi on the run, who won the 50-50 with the UBCO keeper and sailed the ball to the back of the open net to put the Vikes back in front. 
90th Minute – UVic 3, UBCO 1
  • In a near repeat of his first goal of the night, Taghaoussi met Luc Brix Monteiro's pass while breaking away down field, notching the brace on an open-net look to seal the Vikes' win at 3-1.
WORTH NOTING
  • Park scored his fourth goal of the season in the win, while Taghaoussi notched his second and third of the season, respectively.
  • Park and Taghaoussi led the Vikes with four shots each on the night, while Taghaoussi finished with a team-high three shots on goal.
  • Harjot Nijjar tallied four saves in his final game as a Vike.
  • UVic finished with the 17-10 advantage in shots, and 6-5 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Vikes end the season at 3-8-5, while the Heat finish at 4-7-4.
