Women's Rugby hosts next stop of Canada West Rugby 7s series

VICTORIA – Canada West Rugby 7s action arrives in Victoria, B.C., as the University of Victoria women's rugby team hosts the second Canada West Rugby 7s series at Wallace Field, Feb. 12-13.

Dates: Saturday, Feb. 12 and Sunday, Feb. 13

Times: Matches beginning at 10 a.m. each day

NEWS & NOTES
  • The Vikes enter the second tournament of the season a perfect 6-0, coming off an Alberta Rugby 7s championship, Jan. 22-23. The tournament championship marked the fourth time in five seasons the Vikes have won the event.
  • UVic sits at the top of the Canada West standings after the first weekend of play, earning 12 points for the tournament win.
  • Over six games against conference competition, the Vikes never trailed their opponents. The score was tied once, but UVic remained ahead for the remainder of the time.
  • Krista Scurfield garnered Canada West Player of the Week honours following the Alberta tournament, registering a team-high seven tries over the weekend.
  • UVic will have double the action on the field, as the hosts are allowed to submit a second team to the tournament. Victoria Yellow and Victoria Blue will compete at the tournament.

The Canada West Rugby 7s series will wrap up at the University of British Columbia, Feb. 25-26.
