Women's rugby heads to Concordia in search of national championship

VICTORIA – The University of Victoria women's rugby team heads to Concordia University for the Canadian University Women's Rugby 7s National Championship, March 26-27. This will be the first running of the event since the 2019 season.

NEWS & NOTES
  • The Vikes enter the national championship tournament with an overall record of 11-4 on the season, coming off a 4-1 weekend at the Vancouver 7s stop to capture second place in Canada West.
  • Following the completion of the Canada West season, four Vikes were named to the conference all-star team: Carissa Norsten, Kira Peary, and Summer Blackmore to the first team, and Maelle Reed to the second team.
  • The 2022 national championship will be the first national title tournament for women's rugby 7s since 2019, when the Vikes went 6-0 to capture the program's second 7s national championship.
  • Peary leads the Vikes with 128 points on the year (14 tries, 29 converts), a number which also ranks second among all players in Canada West. Norsten leads the Vikes in tries with 17 on the season.
