Women's rugby hosts Calgary for Jenny Vincent Memorial Game

VICTORIA - The University of Victoria women's rugby team hosts the University of Calgary for the annual Jenny Vincent Memorial Thursday, Sept. 21 at Wallace Field.

ABOUT JENNY VINCENT
  • A pioneer in women's rugby, Jenny Vincent was a member of the 1987 Rugby Canada senior women's national team- the first national team Rugby Canada put on the pitch.
  • Vincent took the helm of the Vikes rugby program, guiding UVic through its inaugural season of CIS (now U SPORTS) play.
  • Relocating to Calgary, Vincent worked tirelessly to elevate the Dinos' club rugby team to a varsity one, and led Calgary through its first season of Canada West play in 2008.
  • The Jenny Vincent Memorial Game was started in 2010 between the University of Victoria and University of Calgary to honour her contributions to the two programs.

  • The Vikes enter the match at 1-1 overall, securing its first win of the season this past Sunday against Alberta, 49-0, Sept. 17 at Wallace Field.
  • Calgary holds a record of 0-3 on the season coming to Victoria, most recently falling to Lethbridge, 43-12, Sept. 16.
  • Victoria last matched up against the Dinos in the Canada West playoff semifinals, Oct. 20, 2022. The Vikes came away with the 34-8 win in Edmonton, Alta.
  • UVic has won the last three Jenny Vincent Memorial Games, most recently claiming a 42-12 win over Calgary Sept. 18, 2022 at Wallace Field.
