Men's soccer battles UBC to scoreless finish

Vancouver, B.C. – The University of Victoria men's soccer team ended in a scoreless draw against the University of British Columbia, Oct. 12 at Thunderbird Stadium.

Both sides scoreless through 45
  • Though the Thunderbirds had a 7-2 advantage in shots taken at the end of the first half, Callum Weir registered two saves to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.
Vikes go up a man in the 53rd minute
  • A straight red card to UBC in the 53rd minute resulted in a free kick for the Vikes just outside the box, but Javier Sagaste's shot on the ground was stopped by the UBC goalkeeper to keep the game scoreless.
Game ends with no goals
  • Though the Vikes were up a man for the remainder of the first half, Victoria was not able to take advantage. Neither side found the back of the net in the second half, recording a 0-0 scoreline at the final whistle.
WORTH NOTING
  • Callum Weir recorded four saves in the clean sheet, marking the Vikes' 10th time this season holding their opponent scoreless.
  • The Vikes were shutout by their opponent for the fourth time this season.
  • Victoria amassed 15 shots in the second half, resulting in a 17-10 advantage in shots for the game, with a 7-4 edge in shots on goal over the Thunderbirds.
  • With the draw, the Vikes move to 8-1-4 on the year, while the Thunderbirds now sit at 9-1-3. The draw keeps UBC in first place in the Canada West Pacific Division.
