Men's soccer begins postseason play against Mount Royal

VICTORIA - The University of Victoria men's soccer team heads to the University of Alberta for the first two rounds of the Canada West playoffs, Oct. 25-27. The Vikes will face Mount Royal University in the quarterfinal round.

LAST 5 MEETINGS
  • Victoria is 1-4 against Mount Royal in the last five meetings between the two sides. Meeting earlier this season in Calgary, Alta., the Cougars claimed a 1-0 win, Sept. 22 on their home field.
NEWS & NOTES
  • The Vikes finished the season with a 2-0 win over Trinity Western and 2-1 loss to Fraser Valley, Oct. 18-20 to end with a 9-2-4 overall record and claim the second seed in the Canada West Pacific Division. 
  • Mount Royal finished as the third seed in the prairie division with a 7-2-5 record, closing the season with a 2-1 win over Saskatchewan and 4-1 win over Lethbridge, Oct. 18-20. The Cougars are also the defending Canada West Champions from 2023.
  • Trinity Western (6-6-3, 4th - Pacific) will face hosts Alberta (10-1-3, 1st - Prairie) in the second game in Edmonton. The winner of each of the two games will face off in the Canada West semifinals Sunday, Oct. 27.
  • The Vikes will be bolstered by newly minted Canada West First Team All-Stars Fin Tugwell and Callum Weir, who have helped the Vikes to allow just five goals over 15 games.
  • Matthew Pearse earned a Canada West Second Team All-Star nod, and leads the Vikes with six goals on the year.
  • Pearse and Mattheus Achadinha lead the Vikes with three assists each on the season.
  • The Vikes advanced to the Canada West semifinals in 2023, defeating Lethbridge in the quarterfinals, 3-1, before falling to Mount Royal, 3-1, in the semifinals.
