VICTORIA - The University of Victoria women's rugby team fell to the University of British Columbia, 17-8, to close out the Canada West regular season, Oct. 5 at the Gerald McGavin UBC Rugby Centre.

Grant's penalty goal keeps the Vikes in it
- After UBC put a try on the board in the 15th minute to take a 5-0 lead, Maddy Grant was successful on a penalty goal for the Vikes to make it a two-point game, 5-3, in the 38th minute. The 5-3 UBC lead would remain in place through halftime.
Norsten pulls the Vikes within two
- Though the Thunderbirds took a 10-3 lead via try in the 43rd minute to open the second half, Carissa Norsten slipped through the Thunderbird defenders to touch the ball down and bring the Vikes within two, 10-8, in the 70th minute.
UBC interception wins it
- An interception by UBC led to a Thunderbird breakaway, resulting in a try and convert in the 75th minute to bring the final score to 17-8 in favour of UBC.
WORTH NOTING
- Maddy Grant's penalty goal marked her first points as a Vike.
- Carissa Norsten's try marked her sixth of the season, which is also good for second-most on the Vikes.
- The Vikes end the Canada West regular season with a 1-1 record against UBC, and 4-1 overall record.
