Montreal, Que. - The University of Victoria women's rugby team took second place in the nation at the Canadian University Women's Rugby 7s National Championships, March 17-18, hosted at Concordia University.
Beginning the tournament with pool play action, the Vikes defeated the University of Montreal, 29-5, and Queen's University, 24-19, to advance to the quarterfinal round. Wrapping up day one against familiar foe University of Alberta, the Vikes came away with a 28-5 win to put them in the semifinals on day two.
Facing Queen's for a second time in the semifinal round, the Vikes defeated the Gaels, 12-5, to punch their ticket to the national final. Facing Canada West champions University of British Columbia in the final round, the Vikes ultimately fell to the Thunderbirds, 24-10, to finish as national silver medallists.Â
The Vikes conclude the 2023-24 season as national runners-up in both 15s and 7s action, taking the silver medal at the U SPORTS Championships in November, 2023.
