Vikes set for rugby-filled weekend at Wallace Field

VICTORIA - Wallace Field will see non-stop rugby action this weekend, as the University of Victoria women's rugby team hosts the second stop of the Canada West 7s series, March 1-2, and the Vikes men's rugby team hosts Burnaby RFC on March 1.

NEWS & NOTES
  • In 7s action, the Vikes women will host Calgary, Trinity Western, and UBC on Saturday, followed by Alberta and Lethbridge on Sunday. 
  • The Vikes are 3-2 on the year after the Alberta 7s tournament. Victoria defeated Alberta (31-5), Calgary (19-15) and Lethbridge (31-5) and fell to Trinity Western (12-5) and UBC (12-5) in the first tournament of the season, Jan. 25-26.
  • Kira Peary and Shaye Ogurek lead the Vikes with three tries each after the first tournament. Vanessa Chiappetta was the top point-scorer for the Vikes in Alberta, earning a nod to the tournament Dream Team after registering two tries and a team-high seven converts for 24 points.
  • Trinity Western will host the final stop of the Canada West season, March 14-15. The Canada West champion is determined by the final standings from all three tournaments.
  • In 15s play, the Vikes men host Burnaby RFC. This will be the first BC Rugby action of 2025 for the Vikes, who had there first two games scheduled in early February cancelled due to weather.
  • Victoria faced university competition in Central Washington in men's 15s action in January, falling to the Wildcats 38-29 in the exhibition match.
