Vikes and Heat battle to 0-0 draw

Kelowna, BC - The University of Victoria women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against the University of British Columbia Okanagan, Aug. 29 at Nonis Sport Field.

Victoria led in shots on goal leading into the half
  • At halftime the Vikes led in shots on goal, 4-0, with two from Malia Phelan, one from Ruby Nicholas, and one from Sophie Murphy.
  • Despite the Vikes offensive pressure, UBCO defense held strong in the first half and the score remained 0-0 after 45 minutes of play. 
Stefanie Mocnik makes crucial save
  • In the 84th minute, goalkeeper Stefanie Mocnik made a crucial save to deny a potential goal by UBCO and keep the game scoreless.
Notables 
  • Scarlett McNeely had an outstanding game with 6 shot attempts, while Ruby Nicholas also impressed with three shot attempts and two shots on goal
  • The Vikes also outshot UBCO overall and in shots on target, 17-4, and 6-3, respectively, and had six corner kick opportunities.
  • With the tie, the Vikes hold a record of 1-1-1, while UBCO starts their year with a 0-0-1 record.
The Vikes will travel to Kamloops tomorrow, August 30, to face Thompson Rivers University at 5:00 PM at Hillside Stadium.
