Lethbridge, A.B – The University of Victoria women's rugby team will return home victorious as they downed Lethbridge University 55-12, Sep. 13 at Community Stadium. The Vikes move to 3-0 while the Pronghorns fall to 0-1-1.
Vikes jump out to an early lead
- Vanessa Chiappetta got the scoring started with a try line blitz by the Vikes' players resulting in an early 7-0 lead.
- Carissa Norsten continued the scoring as she striked quick with a big rush down the sideline and over the line to make it 14-0.
- In the 22nd minute, Eden Kilgour put her head down and ran through countless tackles to make it 21-0 Vikes.
- Keeping the pressure on, the Vikes effectively passed the ball around, dicing up the Horns' defense to increase their lead to 26-0.
- The Vikes' fifth try of the game came in the 33rd minute as Emily Findlay capitalized on the Lethbridge mistakes, carrying defenders on her back past the try line to make it 31-0.
- Ella O'Regan added to the lead as she completed the try bursting through the Horns' defense extending the lead to 36-0.
- In the final seconds of the first half, Vanessa Chiapetta buried her second try of the game as she made it 43-0 headed into the half.
Vikes' lead proves insurmountable in the second half
- The Horns were the first on the board in the second half as they broke the shutout to make it 43-5.
- The Vikes took back the momentum in the 47th minute when Chloe Hill-Huse crossed the line for her first try of the game.
- The ball movement of the Vikes continued to baffle the Horns' defenders as Carissa Norsten used her speed to make it a 55-5 Vikes' lead.
- The Pronghorns recorded their second try of the game in the 66th minute to cut into the Vikes' lead to 55-12.
The Vikes look to continue their undefeated season with their next game, Sep. 21 against the University of Alberta at Wallace Field.
