VICTORIA - The University of Victoria women's rugby team recorded an 82-19 victory over the University of Alberta, Sept. 21 at Wallace Field.
Pandas strike first, Vikes score next 24
- Though the Pandas took a 7-0 lead with a try in the second minute, the Vikes were quick to answer. In the eighth minute, Shaye Ogurek scored her first try of the day with a quick run down the right sideline to bring the Vikes back within two, 7-5.
- An 11th-minute try from Ella O'Regan with a Vanessa Chiappetta convert gave the Vikes the lead, 12-7. Ogurek followed with a pick-and-go in the 15th minute to score her second try of the day and give Victoria the 17-7 advantage.
- A Vikes scrum near midfield saw the ball get to the hands of Chiappetta, who ran it all the way in from midfield and made her own convert for the 24-7 Vikes lead in the 19th minute.
Vikes score four of final five tries of first half
- Though Alberta scored in the 22nd minute to bring the score to 24-12, the Vikes recorded a 26th minute try from Ivy Poetker, a 29th minute try from Larah Wright, a penalty try in the 37th minute, and a 39th minute try from Carissa Norsten to hold a 46-12 lead at halftime.
Kilgour, Mackinnon, Norsten, and Newsome round out second half try scorers
- After Eden Kilgour's first try of the day in the 55th minute, Carissa Norsten recorded her second of the contest in the 62nd minute. Adding a convert from Maggie Mackinnon, the Vikes took the 58-19 lead.
- Mackinnon followed with a try of her own in the 66th minute, making her own convert to put all seven points on the board for the Vikes and put the home side ahead, 65-19.
- Kilgour's second try gave the Vikes a 70-19 advantage, before Olivia Newsome shook off mutiple Panda defenders to touch the ball down between the posts for her first try of the afternoon. Elle Douglas was successful on the convert attempt for the 77-19 Vikes lead.
- A final try in the 75th minute from Kilgour sealed the Vikes' win at 82-19.
Kilgour records second half hat trick
- Of the six second-half tries scored by the Vikes, three came via rookie Eden Kilgour. Scoring her first try as a Vike in the 55th minute, Kilgour bolted down the left side of the field to get over the line for the try, putting the score at 51-19 for the Vikes after a 51st minute scoring effort by Alberta.
- Kilgour added tries in the 68th and 75th minutes to complete the hat trick scoring effort for the Vikes.

- Eden Kilgour led the Vikes' scoring with 15 points from three tries, while Carissa Norsten and Shaye Ogurek each added two for the Vikes in the win.
