Kamloops, BC – The University of Victoria men's soccer team opened its 2026 season with a 1-0 loss to the Thompson Rivers WolfPack, August 27 at Hillside Stadium.
Weir proved unbeatable in a scoreless first half.
- Dealing with 40 km/h winds, both teams took time to settle in. The WolfPack found the first clear break of the game as a ball squeaked through the Vikes' backline for a point-blank shot. Callum Weir denied the breakaway, making a diving save to keep the game scoreless.
- Thanks to the strong play by Vikes netminder Callum Weir, the game remained scoreless at the halftime break.
The WolfPack were the first and only on the scoreboard.
- Thompson Rivers opened the scoring in the 65th minute as they capitalized on a turnover in the Vikes' end and headed home a long cross to make it 1-0 as the game approached the midway point of the second half.
- Despite an offensive push to find the equalizer, the Vikes were unable to find the back of the net to bring the game level.
Notables:
- The Vikes fall to 0-1 to start the season as the WolfPack start their campaign 1-0.
The Vikes will continue their road trip as they head to Kelowna to take on the UBC Okanagan Heat on August 29.
