Victoria, BC – The University of Victoria women's rugby team secured their second consecutive win with a 44-26 defeat of the University of Lethbridge, Sep. 12, at Wallace Field.
 
It was a Vikes onslaught in the first half.

• On the rush, Maddy Grant pinned the Pronghorns deep in their end with a kick and a Vikes recovery. Olivia Newsome powered her way over the try line to put the Vikes on the board for the first time in the match. Maggie Mackinnon capped off the seven-point play with the conversion.
• The Vikes were quickly back on attack as the Pronghorns defence struggled to defend their speed and power. Kendra Cousineau finished off the drive, scoring her first try of the season. Maggie Mackinnon nailed her second kick of the game to give the Vikes a 14-0 lead.
• Maddy Grant, Canada West Player of the Week for her performance last Saturday against UBC, cruised into the try zone virtually untouched to move into a tie for the team lead in tries with her third of the year.
• Kendra Cousineau was back in a familiar place as she found herself with the ball on the verge of the Pronghorns' try zone. Cousineau forced her way through the defenders and touched the ball down for her second score of the game.

 
Pronghorns found some offence late in the half.

• Lethbridge found an opening and dashed through the open field into the try zone to get on the scoreboard for the first time in the match. This score reduced the Vikes' lead to 24-5.

 
Grant grabbed another.

• Maddy Grant corralled a bouncing ball in the Lethbridge try zone to retake the momentum heading into the half. Grant's second try of the game made this her second consecutive multi-try performance.

 
Vikes added on to start the second half.

• The second half started with more Vikes offence. The first points came off a Maggie Mackinnon penalty goal to add three on to the large Vikes' lead.
• Elle Douglas quickly followed with a try and five more points.

Lethbridge scored a trio of tries.

• The Pronghorns showed some fight, battling back and creating some offensive momentum. Lethbridge found success scoring three consecutive tries and narrowing their deficit to 13 points.

 
Vikes cap off a dominant win with one more try.

• Brooke Horsfall finalized the Vikes' second consecutive win with her first try of the season. Horsfall scored with no time remaining, securing the 44-26 Vikes' win.

 
Notables

• Victoria remains perfect and moves to 2-0 on the year. Lethbridge fall to 1-1 with the loss.

 
The Vikes will return to the field to battle the Alberta Pandas on Oct. 1 in Edmonton, AB.
