Victoria, BC – The University of Victoria women's soccer team fought back for a 1-1 tie against Thompson Rivers University on Sep. 25 at Hillside Stadium.
Thompson Rivers scored 30 seconds into the game.
- The WolfPack got the scoring started incredibly fast as their first shot found the back of the net before 30 seconds had elapsed. The goal came off a long cross that led to a bouncing ball in the Vikes' box. The WolfPack attacker settled the ball and blasted home the first goal of the game.
Vikes found an equalizer in the second half.
- In the 62nd minute, the Vikes found the elusive game-tying goal, forcing their way back into contention for the win. Mackenzie Lalonde fed Anika Black a pass, putting her in the low block in the WolfPack's end. Black found Brianne McLeish sitting alone in front of the net and one-timed the pass over the shoulder of the WolfPack's goalie. This marked McLeish's second goal of the season and Black's first point as a Vike.
Notable:
- After spending three seasons in a WolfPack uniform, Anika Black assisted the game-tying goal, collecting her first point as a Vike.
- With the tie, the Vikes move to 0-1-4 and the WolfPack to 2-0-3.
The Vikes will return to action tomorrow, Sep. 26, as they travel to Kelowna to take on the UBCO Heat.
