Biography The University of Victoria captured their first women’s Canadian University and College Golf Championship banner on home course advantage at Cordova Bay Golf Course in Victoria, BC. Conducted by the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA), the Vikes managed to edge the University of British Columbia (UBC) from the top spot. The UVic women are the first team other than UBC to win the championship.
Heading into the 2008 Canadian University and College Championships the Vikes women’s golf team had one goal, to win. Cobble Hill, BC native
Christina Spence led the women’s squad firing a four-day, tournament total of 297, which included an even par-71 to push the Vikes team into top spot. Her efforts also vaulted her into first place in the individual charts.
All members of the Vikes played a key part in the overall championship win.

The team competition consists of five-player teams competing over 72 holes. The top four individual scores, each day, tally a team total. After 54 holes, the field is cut down to five female teams.
“Winning this event has been our team’s goal the entire year. What a great day for the entire University of Victoria golf program, ” says Spence after there championship win.
The Vikes managed to put themselves a mere four-strokes ahead of rival and defending champs UBC who finished second. Spence lef the field from start to finish, defeating her closest competitor by 12 strokes.
The RCGA’s Pathway to Champions earned Spence a spot in the Royale Cup Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship held in the summer of 2008 at Elmhurst Golf and Country Club in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The tournament showcased the best female amateur golfers from Canada and around the world.
