Biography
Since 1984 the University of Victoria’s women’s field hockey program has captured five national titles. As the team prepares for nationals, head coach Lynne Beecroft leads an experience roster, six of which were members of the 1992 championship team.

The Vikettes welcome back key midfielder Cara Jay who took a year off from playing with the varsity team during the 1993-94 season. The women’s team also welcomes back Lauralee Kopeck from the 1987 Vikes women’s field hockey championship team, who has been a member of the Canadian national team program.

The Vikettes travelled to Calgary, AB for the 1994 Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union (CIAU) national championship tournament. In round-robin play the Vikettes played University of New Brunswick, and the University of Toronto Blues. In game one the UVic women played New Brunswick and won 2-0. Keeping it interesting the game against Toronto was determined by penalty-shots. Toronto defeated the Vikettes 3-2. Ensuring a berth to the finals, Beecroft and the Vikettes needed to win the semifinals. Playing mainland rivals University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, UVic secured the chance to capture their sixth national title with a 1-0 victory over the Thunderbirds.

The final match had UVic posted against York University of Toronto, ON. In round-robin play York tied the University of Calgary in a 0-0 draw, tied UBC 1-1 and defeated Toronto in the semifinals. Victoria successfully recaptured the CIAU national title from 1992 with a 1-0 victory over York University. All-Canadian honours were award to Kopeck (first team) and Jay (second team).

National Level Appearance
Kopeck graduated in 1996 with a double major in Sociology and Psychology. Her first international appearance was in 1989 at the Junior World Cup in Ottawa, Ontario. In 1990 Kopeck represented Canada in the World Cup in Sydney, Australia. She was also a part of the senior squad that qualified for the 1992 Olympic Summer Games in Barcelona, Spain. Kopeck captained the women's national team from 1995-2001.
