Biography
The University of Victoria’s women’s cross-country team’s head coach Brent Fougner has continued his role as the 1999-2000 women’s cross-country head coach for the second season. After officially taking on head coach duties of the women’s team last season, Fougner led the UVic women to the 1998 national title, their first in four years. Aiming to produce the same dynamic synergy that season, the women’s running team headed to Kingston, Ontario for the Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union (CIAU) national championship meet.

Returning to the 1999 Vikes women’s roster was 1998 CIAU national bronze medalist Barbora Brych, sixth place Stephanie Mills, 14th place Larissa Managh and 28th place Wendy Cocksedge.  Brych and Mills were named CIAU First Team All-Canadians, while Managh was named to the second team. Brych also took home a silver medal at the 1998 Canada West championship prior to nationals. The Vikes women were looking for their second consecutive national title in Kingston.

Hosted by Queens University, UVic was led by 1999 Canada West most valuable player (MVP) and First Team All-Canadian Mills. Continuing her success, Mills crossed the line in third place at the CIAU national championships. Mills clocked in at 17:40, only 11 seconds behind University of Western Ontario leader Teresa Duck. Brych and Managh were close behind finishing in fourth and sixth place. All three Vikes, Mills, Brych and Managh, were named to the first team all-Canadian roster. Brandi Heisterman and Cocksedge were named to the second team all-Canadian roster for their 11th and 14th place finishes. Head coach Fougner was named CIAU coach of the year for the second consecutive season, alongside UVic’s second consecutive women’s national title.

Victoria scored 33 points on the reverse scoring system to take home the programs seventh CIAU national championship title. Western Ontario finished second with 96 points, followed by Guelph University in third, Queens University in fourth and University of Manitoba in fifth place. Mill's time of 17:40 was a seasons best, qualifying her for the World University Games and heads to Chiba, Japan representing Canada in the World Road Relay.
