Vikes Honour Roll 2013-14

Vikes Honour Roll 2013-14

The University of Victoria Vikes celebrated the announcement of 69 student-athletes being named to the 2014 Vikes Honour Roll list on Nov. 19, 2014 at the University of Victoria's Faculty Club on campus.

Women's rugby player Shannon Fitzpatrick was named this year's Provost Award winner after earning the highest academic average in 2013-14.

The Vikes Honour Roll recipients are student-athletes who achieved a minimum of a 6.6 GPA (80%) during the 2013-14 school year, while training and competing at the highest level of sport. This year marks the 10th annual Vikes Honour Roll Luncheon but only the second time that an associated $500 Vikes Honour Roll Award has been associated to each award. Thanks to the generous support of the University of Victoria and the apparel and on-campus partnership between Nike, T. Litzen Sports and the UVic Bookstore the 2013-14 group of recipients receives this financial support for their accomplishments.

As the Provost Award winner Fitzpatrick receives a further $500 athletic financial award, for a total of $1,000 in support. The third-year boasted an impressive 8.78 GPA studying Kinesiology in the Faculty of Education. Recently, Fitzpatrick helped the Vikes claim a bronze medal at the 2014 Canada West Championship and will be honoured again at the end of the year at the Celebration of Champions athletics award banquet on April 1, 2015.

All of the student-athletes from sports that compete in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) also received an Academic All-Canadian certificate personally signed by His Excellency, the Right Honorable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada. In 2013-14, a record 2,863 CIS student-athletes across Canada achieved the prestigious Academic All-Canadian status, eclipsing the previous mark of 2,695 set a year ago.
