Jane Gumley enters her fourth season as the head coach of the Vikes women’s rowing program in 2025-26 following a successful campaign as the interim head coach in 2021-22.
Finding the podium in all six events at the Canadian University Rowing Championships in 2024, the program captured its first lightweight 4+ gold medal since 2011 to clinch the Vikes' third-straight and 14th overall national title. Earning Coach of the Year honours for the fourth-straight season, Sai Sai Faubert also earned Female Athlete of the Year accolades following gold medal performances in the lightweight 1x and lightweight 4+. In the spring, the Vikes captured the Campebll-Dowd Cup at the annual Brown Cup regatta.
Gumley's 2023-24 squad saw repeated in success in 2023-24, with the program successfully defending its national championship title and securing the program's 13th national championship. Gumley earned Coach of the Year recognition for the third-straight year after her team captured the national championship banner.
The 2022-23 season saw the Vikes women's rowing program capture the 12th national championship title in program history, and first since 2012. Gumley became the first female coach to lead a team to a national championship banner at the Canadian University Rowing Championships, also earning Coach of the Year honours for the second-straight season. The Vikes also swept the Campbell-Dowd Cup and Brown Cup races at the annual Brown Cup regatta marking the second-straight sweep of UBC under Gumley.
Awarded Coach of the Year accolades at the 2021-22 Canadian University Rowing Championships after bringing home a silver medal, Gumley also led the Vikes’ reserve and varsity boats to wins at the 2022 Brown Cup (an annual race between UVic and perennial powerhouse UBC).
A former Vike, Gumley is no stranger to leading a team. As a career coxswain, Gumley led the men's rowing team to three Brown Cup wins and coxed the men's eight at two Canadian University Rowing Championships.
A member of the Canadian national rowing team in 2018, Gumley coxed the men's eight to a sixth-place finish at the World Cup III in Lucerne, Switzerland, and an eighth-place finish at the World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
With close ties to the Victoria rowing community, the UVic graduate has been a masters level lead coach with the Victoria City Rowing Club since 2017.
Gumley holds a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from the University of Victoria.
