The Canada West swimming championship was dominated by the UBC Thunderbirds but third-year Victoria Vikes swimmer Danielle Hanus still found a way on to the podium in every event she competed in. Hanus led the Vikes women to one of their best performances of recent years at the conference championship as she led off all three relay events that got on the podium. Hanus broke the conference record in the 100-m butterfly, a record she set a year previous. The Humanities major earned three gold medals (200-m fly, 100-m fly, 50-m back) and a silver (100-m back) in her individual events and helped the Vikes relay teams win two silvers (4x100-m medley, 4x200-m freestyle) and a bronze (4x100-m freestyle). Hanus was the first non-UBC female to top the podium on Day 1.
