Parker posts sixth shutout in 0-0 draw

VICTORIA – UVic Vikes women's soccer goal keeper #Stephanie Parker# posted her league-best sixth shutout on Saturday afternoon as her side battled to a 0-0 draw with the Fraser Valley Cascades.

Heavy showers caused a last second field change and the Vikes found themselves playing on UVic's newly minted artificial turf. The Cascades seemed to benefit from the switch and outshot the Vikes 9-3 in the opening half.

The no. 4 Vikes responded in the second half and outshot the Cascades 13-8. Their closest scoring opportunity came in the 65th minute when a series of deflections landed the ball at #Kendra Flock#'s feet. Canada West's lead scorer was unable to convert, however, sending her shot just wide.

With playoffs just around the corner, Vikes head coach #Tracy David# said the draw had the impact of a loss in their title race.

“They beat us to every 50-50 ball,” David said after the match. “It's plain and simple, we have got to work harder than we did today.”

Both 'keepers earned their shutouts with Parker making eight saves and Chantelle Biagioni making nine.

The 6-3-1 Vikes head to Alberta next week and will take on the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday, Oct. 24 and the Calgary Dinos on Sunday, Oct. 25. Both matches are scheduled for 12pm kickoffs.
